Kids were excited about the otter and beaver

Last Saturday, 25^th May 2013, Lutra Institute attended 12^th Andersen's charity Živ Žav entitled "Water, the source of youth". We presented the project Aquaviva with the emphasis on the presentation of aquatic animals to preschoolers, their parents and other visitors. We spoke about the otter, beaver and their habitat and the food web, in which they are situated. The children were especially excited over the instructive stuffed toy otters and beaver. With parents we chatted about non-native species of mammals that can be found in the Ljubljanica River (coypu, muskrat). According to our estimates, our stand was visited by at least 500 people.

Our stand was cofinanced by the City of Ljubljana.

22nd May - the International Day for Biological Diversity

May 22^nd has been declared the International Day for Biological Diversity to highlight why we need to stop the biodiversity loss if we were to sustain life on Earth. The theme for the year 2013 is Water and Biodiversity. To this end, the Ministry of agriculture and the environment prepared an interactive exhibition "Water connects", which shows the importance of water, its unifying role and aquatic biodiversity. As a partner in the project Lutra Institute participates with the otter boards. The exhibition is open from 22^nd May to 7^th June every day from 9 till 15 o'clock in the hall of the Dunajska 22 in Ljubljana.

12th Andersen’s Živ Žav and 3rd Eco family picnic

Here comes another working Saturday (25^th May 2013), this time dedicated to children. In Ljubljana, we will join 12^th Andersen's Živ Žav, which this year's theme is "Water, the source of youth". This is a charity event organized by the Hans Christian Andersen kindergarten. The Aquaviva team will have the Otter stand, where the children will learn about the otter and her many friends that live in inland waters. Join us from 9 to 13 o'clock in the unit Marjetica at Bitenčeva 4.

Similarly, we will have a stand at the 3^rd Eco family picnic in Žalec, where it will be rich variety of events. Visitors will be able to visit the market, attend various lectures and workshops. Eco Picnic will be held from 9 to 19 o'clock in the park Nivo Žalec. Since the event was postponed because of the weather, the Eco picnic will be held on 8^th June 2013.
