The first Monday in October we celebrate the Children's day. For this special day Friends of Youth Association organizes Children's week, which was this year from 1st till 6th October 2012. IN this period there were numerous events for children. We celebrated this special week with Friends of Youth Association Maribor that organized workshops and stands in Maribor. We presented our project Aquaviva twice. First on a workshop for primary school pupils on Mariborski otok (2nd October 2012) and secondly with a stand in the centre of Maribor city (4th October 2012).
During the workshop pupils got familiar with freshwater biodiversity, at least with few representatives. Later we divided pupils in two groups, competing between each other in crating food webs. Through this they learned about different roles organisms have in nature. At the end we made simple tests in order to check the chemical parameters of the water sample from Drava river. Photos from the workshop are available in the gallery.

Two day later we had a stand at Trg svobode in Maribor. At our stand visitors could get a peep at freshwater biodiversity, get to know some representatives and take a part in our survey.

29th September 2012 was a working Saturday for 4th graders of Danila Kumar International School. And this was also the day when children got a chance to learn about the otter and some other freshwater related organisms. Crayfish, for example, are a diverse group from which more than 300 species can be found in Slovenian freshwaters. Pupils also got to know the non-native crayfish species in Slovenia - the signal crayfish. From crayfish to birds, where we presented kingfisher and grey heron. Both species feed on fish. Fish is also main prey for otters, freshwater representative of mammal species. Beside fish there are also shellfish, amphibians, smaller bords and mammals on otter's menu.
At the end of the workshop we constructed a simple food web, including all the animals presented. Doing so, we learned that in nature everything is connected. Few photos from the workshop are available in the gallery.
