Otter and her friends at Danila Kumar International School

20120929 os_danile_kumar_129th September 2012 was a working Saturday for 4th graders of Danila Kumar International School. And this was also the day when children got a chance to learn about the otter and some other freshwater related organisms. Crayfish, for example, are a diverse group from which more than 300 species can be found in Slovenian freshwaters. Pupils also got to know the non-native crayfish species in Slovenia - the signal crayfish. From crayfish to birds, where we presented kingfisher and grey heron. Both species feed on fish. Fish is also main prey for otters, freshwater representative of mammal species. Beside fish there are also shellfish, amphibians, smaller bords and mammals on otter's menu.

At the end of the workshop we constructed a simple food web, including all the animals presented. Doing so, we learned that in nature everything is connected. Few photos from the workshop are available in the gallery.
