Yesterday, 16th April 2013, we visited primary school Tone Čufar. To a group of pupils from the 1st to 5th class and Eco dudes were presented freshwaters. First, we designed three different models of wetlands. We've tested the models and saw what is happening to our water. How fast the water flowed from the model? How much water flowed from the wetlands? Is spilled water as dirty as at the beginning? We compared all three models and learned how people influence the wetlands.
After we learned about wetlands, we took a closer look at aquatic invertebrates. Since these organisms are small and often hidden among the rocks, in the sand, they are often overlooked. Although invertebrates are inconspicuous, are very important indicators of the state of the water body. Pupils were shown invertebrates from the stream from Ljubljansko Barje. They get to know stoneflies, minors, mayflies, dragonflies, leeches, turbellaria... After this we performed several water experiments and learned how oils and detergents affect some organisms in the water.
Nature education day was co-financed by the City of Ljubljana.
