Workshop "Water and Otter" for primary school Kobilje

Agency Muranica, turistično organiziranje in svetovanje, arranged a workshop in our centre for primary school Kobilje in Prekmurje. On 30^th May 23 pupils from 5^th to 8^th grade visited our centre. During the presentation we talked about water, freshwater ecosystems and their biodiversity, about otter as endangerd umbrella sprecies, inhabiting mentioned ecosystems. We got familiar with both LIFE projects. First was about conservation of otter population in Goričko, the second one is about promotion and conservation of freshwater biodiversity. Since traffic is one of the biggest threats to otters, we also discussed about animals in traffic and got to know STOPJEŽ project. There are measures with which drivers can reduce the number of run-over animals. Children can contribute by warning their parents to drive more carefully. To the back of their parents car they can put a sticker, warning other drivers to the animals in traffic.

We did not get familiar with the expression biodiversity only in theory but also in practice. We visited nearby stream that is in good ecomorphologic state and with water of good quality. Children were amazed over what lives in such a small stream. In the end they tried themselves in long jumps and realised that most of martens are better jumpers.
