Discovering biodiversity of Ljubljanica River

20130920 os savsko naselje5Sunny days are perfect for exploring freshwater biodiversity. Therefore we spent last Friday, 20th September 2013, with sixth graders of primary school Savsko naselje on Ljubljanica River.

We had a nature education day, dedicated to biodiversity. First thing we noticed, when we met by the river in Fužine, was a grey heron. We continued the day with sampling freshwater organisms in nearby oxbow lake. Mainly amphipods were caught. Along the way we observed non-native species and looked for otter traces. While children were working, the teachers were picking up trashes and contributed to cleaner river. Nature education day was cofinanced by the City of Ljubljana. Photos from the nature education day are available in the gallery.
